On July 16, 2024, a group of three led by Kao Cheng-Shu, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Fengjia University, Taiwan, China, visited the Shanghai Library East, accompanied by Ms. Zheng Xiaolei, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office of Tongji University in Shanghai. Director Chen Chao accompanied Chairman Kao to visit the main areas of the Library East, including the atrium on the first floor, the Reading Square on the third floor, the genealogy and manuscript libraries on the fourth floor, and the Treasured Collections Library on the seventh floor.

After touring the library, both parties had a discussion in the reception room on the seventh floor. Director Chen gave Chairman Kao an introduction to the cooperation and exchange between the Shanghai Library and such institutions as Taiwan Sinology Research Center, Taipei Municipal Library, Fu Si-nian Library, and Taiwan Ancient Books Protection Center, as well as the services of the Shanghai Library East and the Library on Huaihai Road, the library’s genealogy collection, and library readership. Chairman Kao thanked Director Chen for his warm reception and praised the Library East as a public library that serves the general public and provides lifelong learning opportunities to citizens. And he said that he has benefited greatly from this trip to the Shanghai Library East.
