On June 3, 2024, Dr. János Róbert Füle, the cultural and educational consul of the Hungarian Consulate General in Shanghai, and his delegation visited the Shanghai Library East. Yang Chunhua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Library, and Xu Qiang, Deputy Director of the library, exchanged views with Mr. Füle in the reception room on the seventh floor of the library. Personnel from the Reading Promotion Center, Reader Service Center, and International Exchange Office also participated in the reception.
During the meeting, Mr. Füle expressed his gratitude to the Shanghai Library for its support of the various events organized by the Hungarian Consulate General in Shanghai. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary, Mr. Füle gave an introduction to Secretary Yang about the first Sino-Hungarian Youth International Rubik's Cube Open. He also expressed his hope that the Shanghai regional competition of the open tournament could be held in early July at the Shanghai Library East. Secretary Yang remarked that the Rubik's Cube competition could help improve the intellectual development of young people and reduce their dependence on electronic products such as mobile phones. The Shanghai Library has always attached great importance to the reading interest and the growth of young people and is very willing to host the open tournament. Secretary Yang also expressed the hope that the final competition could be held at the Shanghai Library East.
After the meeting, Deputy Director Xu Qiang accompanied Mr. Füle and his team to inspect potential venues for the competition at the Library East, including the City Living Room, the Oriental Academy Classroom, and the B1 Lecture Hall. Later, the organizers of the competition will visit the Shanghai Library East again to make their final selection of the venue.
