On March 22, 2024, Ms. Catherine Lau, Deputy Chief Executive of the National Library Board of Singapore, leading a delegation of 8 people, visited the Shanghai Library. Mr. Chen Chao, Director of the Shanghai Library, and Ms. Catherine Lau had a meeting and exchange of ideas in the conference room of the Shanghai Library East. Prior to the meeting, Director Lau and her delegation visited areas such as the Treasured Collections Library on the 7th floor, the Fine Arts Library on the 5th floor, the Genealogy Library on the 4th floor, and the Reading Square on the 3rd floor, and watched promotional videos of the Shanghai Library East.
Director Chen welcomed the visit of Director Lau and her delegation, gave an introduction to the development of the Library East, and reviewed the cooperation and communications between the two libraries for over 20 years. Director Lau thanked Director Chen for his warm reception and discussed the purpose of this visit to the Shanghai Library. The Reading Promotion Center, Cataloging and Acquisitions Center, and Reader Service Center of the Shanghai Library all assigned relevant personnel to attend the meeting and shared with the Singaporean library colleagues the successful cases of Shanghai Library's reading promotion, the acquisitions of physical and digital resources, and the sorting and lending of library books. The two sides compared the differences in library management and operation models between China and Singapore, discussed and exchanged ideas on common issues, and looked forward to further cooperation and learning in the future.
