2024 Spring Festival Reception held in Shanghai Library East

On the evening of February 2, 2024, the 2024 Spring Festival reception was held in the City Living Room on the seventh floor of the Shanghai Library East. The reception was organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government and Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, co-organized by the Shanghai Library.

About 500 people attended the reception, including representatives from foreign consular offices in Shanghai, media, international friendship cities, members of the Mayor's International Entrepreneur Consultation Conference, foreign friends and representatives from Hong Kong and Macao. Yang Chunhua, Secretary of Shanghai Library Committee of CPC , Chen Chao, Director of Shanghai Library, Yang Yongmei, Deputy Secretary of Shanghai Library Committee of CPC, and Xu Qiang, Deputy Director of Shanghai Library also attended the reception as representatives of the co-organizers.

Kong Fu’an, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and Executive Vice President of the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, shared the development of Shanghai in 2023 in his speech, hoping that everyone will continue to believe in Shanghai, choose Shanghai and take root in Shanghai in the new year ahead.

Chen Chao, Director of Shanghai Library, introduced the development of Shanghai Library and hoped that the "Window of Shanghai" project, which was founded in 2002, would continue to serve as an important carrier for promoting cultural exchanges between Shanghai and other countries through books.

Chen Jing, President of the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Chen Yuru, Head of the Foreign Consulate General in Shanghai and Consul General of Fiji, jointly put the finishing touch on the Golden Dragon.

At the reception, Chinese and foreign guests experienced the folk culture together. In various exhibition areas of Shanghai and Shanghai Library's non-legacy projects, the dazzling array of exquisite exhibits and wonderful craftsmanship made Chinese and foreign guests linger and greatly interested. Some consulates-general in Shanghai also participated in the New Year's cultural display with colorful exhibits and different cultural customs, attracting guests to stop, enjoy and experience.

The performance part of the event also gave a perfect blending of Chinese and foreign cultures. The wonderful performances of Chinese actors and consular officials in Shanghai won bursts of applause, and the dragon and lion dance also conveyed everyone's good wishes for the Year of the Dragon!
