Mr. Massimo Ambrosetti, the new Italian ambassador to China, and Ms. Tiziana D'Angelo, Italian Consul General in Shanghai, arrived at Bibliotheca Zi-Ka-Wei at 10:30 a.m. on June 10, 2023. Chen Chao, Director of the Shanghai Library met Ambassador Ambrosetti at the gate of the Bibliotheca.
Xu Jinhua, the librarian in charge of the Bibliotheca, gave Ambassador Ambrosetti and his delegation an introduction to the picture "Aerial View of Xujiahui in the 1930s" hanging in the lobby on the first floor, the two relief works made by Jesuits in the middle of the 19th century in the reading room on the second floor, the library collection and the six important items, namely, Sapientia Sinica, Novus Atlas Sinensis, China Monumentis, Confucius Sinarum Philosophus, Sive Scientia Sinensis Latine Exposita…Adjecta est Tabula Chronologica Sinicae Monarchiae, Cursus Litteraturae Sinicaem, and Histoire d'une dame Chretienne de Chine, ou, Madame Candide Hiu (1607-1680)。
Returning to the reading room on the second floor, Director Chen Chao presented Ambassador Ambrosetti with a hardcover catalog of the Bibliotheca collection, which is placed in a white imitation sheepskin box. Ambassador Ambrosetti thanked Director Chen Chao for his warm reception and said the architecture and collection of the Bibliotheca left him a deep impression. Both sides will further cooperate on the library collection development and enhance the cultural exchanges between China and the West in the future.
