From November 28th to December 2nd, 2023, a delegation of 8 people led by Mr. Ng Cher Pong, Chief Executive Officer of the National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore and Mr. Gene Tan, Chief Librarian, visited Shanghai. They visited the Shanghai Library and other libraries, and were received by Chen Chao, Director of the Shanghai Library.
On November 29th, the NLB delegation visited the Shanghai Library on the Huaihai Road, and the Shanghai Library East. Director Chen Chao accompanied the guests to tour the library and exchanged ideas with them. Both sides gave introductions to the development of the respective libraries, exchanged views on the challenges they are facing and will encounter in the future. They also discussed the development of AI languages. Both sides hope to overcome difficulties and achieve the expected goals of library development as soon as possible through mutual learning and communication. Director Chen Chao presented the visiting delegation a set of illustrated books about the Shanghai Library East.
On November 30th and December 1st, the NLB delegation visited the Shanghai Library's Bibliotheca Zi-Ka-Wei and the ZiKaWei Library, Grand Neobay Library, Zhongshuge Book Store, and the Shanghai Children's Library (Changfeng Branch).
On December 2nd, the NLB delegation left Shanghai.
The NLB delegation has repeatedly expressed thanks for the thoughtful arrangements made by the Shanghai Library for their visit to Shanghai, and sincerely hope that the two libraries can have more opportunities for communication and cooperation.
