In 2023, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Philadelphia Orchestra's first visit to China, the Philadelphia Orchestra began its 13th China tour. On the afternoon of November 18, the Orchestra held a flash event in the atrium on the first floor of the Shanghai Library East. This event is the last performance of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s tour in China, and it is also the only performance open to the public for free.
After the performance, Ryan Fleur, Executive Director of The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc., presented a gift to the Shanghai Library on behalf of the Orchestra - the electronic version of some historical photos of the Orchestra’s first visit in China in 1973. In addition, the artists of Philadelphia Orchestra also specially signed the program lists of Philadelphia Orchestra's performances in China in 1973 and 1993 collected by Shanghai Library as a gift. Chen Chao, Director of Shanghai Library, accepted the gift and presented Mr. Ryan Fleur with the donation certificate of Shanghai Library. Lou Wei, Chairman of Shanghai Library Governing Board, presented the Philadelphia Orchestra with three books, Design/Construction/Art of Shanghai Library East, and also Stroll with Music and Reading -Theme Music Collection of Shanghai Library East.
