On the morning of October 29, 2023, Mr. Jukka Mäkelä, Mayor of Espoo, Finland, a sister city of Shanghai, Ms. Anu Vuori Kiikeri, Consul General of Finland in Shanghai, and representatives of Finnish entrepreneurs invited by the Finish Consulate, a delegation of 14 people, accompanied by personnel from the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, visited the Shanghai Library East. Deputy Director Xu Qiang received the guests.

Accompanied by Director Xu, the delegation from Espoo city visited the Reading Square on the third floor of the Shanghai Library East, the Genealogy and Manuscripts libraries on the fourth floor, the Music Library on the fifth floor, and the Treasured Collections Library on the seventh floor.

Mayor Jukka Mäkelä said that the Shanghai Library East has left a deep impression on him and there are many aspects worthwhile for Espoo to learn.
The Shanghai Library and the Espoo City Library established a cooperative relationship as early as 2013 through the "Window of Shanghai" project and has maintained long-term contact through the book exchanges program.
