On July 5th, the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) presented nominees of Public Library of the Year Awards 2021, and Ningbo New Library is one of the nominee. It also fulfilled the zero breakthrough of this award in Chinese public library circle.

Except Ningbo New Library, the other nominees are Marrickville Library, Australia; Deichman Bjervika - Oslo Public Library, Norway; Het Predikheren, Belgium; and Forum Groningen, Holland. This is the sixth selection of Public Library of the Year Awards. The previous winners of last five years were from Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands and Finland, respectively. In 2019, the winner of this award was the Helsinki Central Library, Finland.
