As an emerging technology, VR/AR technology can help libraries to create a three-dimensional dynamic virtual environment with multi-source information fusion. With the help of VR glasses, helmets and other external devices, users can obtain personalized library experience. This technology also reduce the entry threshold of the library, which is highly consistent with the transformation needs of library resources and services in the digital era.
The application of VR technology in Chinese libraries can be divided into three directions: guide virtualization, retrieval visualization and reading virtualization. It could also be divided into two application directions: virtual resource navigation and reading scene simulation.
Guide virtualization focuses on providing library virtual scene roaming, building simulation 3D virtual venues and forming a set of fully functional library virtual resource navigation platform. Reading scene simulation is mainly aimed at reading virtualization, by which the library provides readers with thematic virtual reality services such as "VR reciting classics" and "AR to the future" cultural enjoyment experience.
At present, there are many public libraries in China applying VR and AR technology to experience activities. The promotion of triple play also provides technical support for AR technology multi carrier Unicom, and the arrival of 5g era will also help the wide promotion of AR technology.
