Results Of The 18th Nationwide Reading Survey Released

On the afternoon of April 23, Chinese Academy of Press and Publication released the results of the 18th Nationwide Reading Survey.

The Nationwide Reading Survey organized and implemented by Chinese Academy of Press and Publication has been carried out for 18 times since 1999. The 18th Nationwide Reading Survey was launched in August 2020. This survey still strictly follows the principle of "same caliber, same comparability", and continues to use four sets of questionnaires to survey the whole age population. The three age groups of minors (0-8 years old, 9-13 years old, 14-17 years old) were interviewed with three different sets of questionnaires. The main findings of this survey are as follows:

1. In 2020, the comprehensive reading rate of various media of China's adult citizens continued to grow steadily, and both the book reading rate and the digital reading contact rate rose.

2. Mobile reading and online reading are the main ways of digital reading for adult citizens. The proportion of the middle and old people in the digital reading population is higher.

3. In 2020, the per capita paper books and e-books reading volume of adult Chinese citizens have been improved compared with the previous year, and the scale of the deep reading population continued to expand.

4. In terms of the length of contact with different media, adults have the longest daily contact with mobile phones, and the length of reading has increased compared with the previous year.

5. The scale of sound reading of adult citizens has been expanding, and the listening media is becoming more and more diversified.

6. The proportion of adults who tend to "Read with a paper book." has increased, and nearly 30% of the citizens are satisfied with their overall reading situation.

7. The awareness rate of adult citizens to the nationwide reading brand activities is over 70%, and the participation and satisfaction of the activities are high.

8. Urban residents in China are more satisfied with the use of public reading service facilities.

9. The reading rate and volume of 0-17-year-old peaple were higher than that of the previous year, and more than 70% of them had been exposed to digital reading.

10. In 2020, the national reading index is 70.45 points, of which the personal reading index is 73.05 points and the public reading service index is 67.63 points.
