From the Himalayas to the Andes, the “Window of Shanghai” boosts China-Latin America cooperation to reach a new level

On the afternoon of Nov.9th, 2021, Deputy Director of Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, President of SPAFFC, Chen Jing, and Executive Director of A-CHILAC, Juan de Dios Parra, held the signing ceremony of Cooperation Memorandum of “Window of Shanghai” of Shanghai Library via video connection. Deputy President, Jing Ying, Director of Shanghai Library, Chen Chao, Chairman of A-CHILAC Advisory Committee, Senator of Congreso Nacional de Chile, Juan Pablo Letelier, Director of Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile, Manuel Alfonso Pérez Guiñez, and the sponsor and president of A-CHILAC, Xia Zhenghai, attended the activity.

On this “cloud” conference, Deputy Director of Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, president of SPAFFC, Chen Jing, expressed that with the spirit of “Belt and Road Initiative”, through various platform, such as “Window of Shanghai”, SPAFFC boosted the practical cooperation between Shanghai and Chile, also in several China-Latin America areas.

Shanghai Library, Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile and A-CHILAC signed Cooperation Memorandum of “Window of Shanghai” of Shanghai Library

Director of Shanghai Library, Chen Chao, introduced that, initiated in 2002, the “Window of Shanghai” aimed to promote the Chinese history and culture by donating domestically published books to overseas libraries and relative organizations. He said, by the end of 2020, Shanghai Library had opened 176 “Window of Shanghai” worldwide. Today, this number turned from 176 to 177. “Window of Shanghai” had a new friend——Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile. In the future, we would enhance the cooperation and communication with libraries in Latin-America, including Chile, to promote the building of community of shared future for mankind, and to do better in the friendly exchange and cooperation in the field of library service.

Director of Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile, Manuel Alfonso Pérez Guiñez, expressed the congratulation and vision of cooperation in the video connection. He said, they felt proud of being the cooperative partner of “Window of Shanghai” of Shanghai Library and the advanced experience of Shanghai Library could inspire them. He hoped, the cooperation with Shanghai Library would not stop at book donation and collection management, but laid a great foundation of future personnel exchange, information sharing and technical cooperation.

Executive Director of A-CHILAC, Juan de Dios Parra, expressed that signing Cooperation Memorandum among Shanghai Library, Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile and A-CHILAC was quite meaningful, opening a window for Latin Americans to know more about China and Shanghai, also meant that bilateral cooperation walked from the Himalayas to the Andes, like a golden button, a summary of five-year solid work of A-CHILAC and the new beginning of future cooperation.
