On Oct. 15, 2021, Gilberto Fonseca-Guimaraes de Moura, Consul General of Brazil in Shanghai, leading a group of three people, visited the Shanghai Library. Chen Chao, Director of the Shanghai Library, had a conversation with the guests in the VIP room on the second floor of the library.
Gilberto Fonseca-Guimaraes de Moura remarked that the purpose of this visit was to donate Brazilian writers’ e-book resources to the Shanghai Library. The resources were provided by the following four organizations: DomínioPúblico, the largest virtual library in Brazil, BrasilianaGuita e José Mindlin Electronic Library, Library of Universidade de São Paulo and the National Library Foundation.
Director Chen Chao expressed his gratitude to Consul General for this proposal. He said these electronic resources in Portuguese could largely enrich the collections of the Shanghai Library and give the readers and Portuguese language lovers a deeper insight into the Brazilian culture. Director Chen Chao also hoped that with the help and support of Consul General and Brazilian Consulate in Shanghai, the Window of Shanghai, a cultural exchange project of the Shanghai Library, could be established in the above four institutions and other libraries in Brazil, in order to bring the culture of Shanghai and China to Brazil. As the Shanghai Library East Building is soon to open to the general public, Director Chen Chao invited Consul General to visit the new library building, and he hoped to take this as the opportunity to conduct more exchange and cooperation activities.
After the conversation, Consul General represented Brazilian Consulate in Shanghai to donate two books, Dois Irmaos and Flower of Forest written by Brazilian writers, to Shanghai Library. Accompanied by Director Chen Chao, Consul General had a short tour in Shanghai Library.
