MAD's New Work "WormholeLibrary" Will Be Completed Soon

Recently, MADArchitects released the design of "WormholeLibrary" in Haikou. The integrated white building is like a multi-dimensional space-time tunnel, connecting the city and the coast and connecting reality and imagination. This is a public space that combines the functions of the library and the coastal trail station, where people can rest, read, empty and watch the sea. Besides, medium-sized outdoor performances and concerts can also be held around. At present, the building has entered the construction stage and is expected to be completed in 2021.

As an important island city in the south of China, Haikou was once an important stop on the maritime Silk Road. "WormholeLibrary"will be located in the Century Parkon the Bank of Haikou Bay. The building is facing the South China Sea and becoming an important node of the public space start-up plan in Haikou. At present, many world famous architects have participated in the design of Haikou Binhai Post Station, "WormholeLibrary" will be the starting point of the overall plan.

The building is made of white concrete, with internal and external integration. Small holes are organic breathing openings that also introduce natural light into the depths of space. The cloister gray space outside the building provides shade and ventilation for the hot environment of Haikou, so that passers-by can stop and enjoy the sea. In order to adapt to the local hot climate conditions, the overhanging design is adopted for the eaves, and the thermal radiation is reduced by physical shading, so as to realize the sustainable energy-saving building.
