As a public cultural institution, how to deal with the emergency challenges brought by the COVID-19 has become a serious problem for Chinese libraries currently. It is found that the emergency services provided by domestic libraries mainly include:
1. Digital Resource Service
Public libraries provide rich digital resources. There are three ways to access digital resources. Firstly, without logging in, you can directly click the link or scan the QR code, such as the EBSCO series database of the National Library of China. Secondly, it is necessary to bind the reader's card, and users without certificate can apply for virtual e-reading card in real name, such as Tianjin Library and Hebei Provincial Library. Thirdly, according to the public account and password provided, readers can use the account and password provided.
2. Charitable Support
As of February 26, more than 150 libraries and related institutions in China have raised a large number of materials, including more than 50,000 masks, nearly 357,000 pairs of gloves, 30 tons of seasonal vegetables and so on.
3. Online Activities
Capital Library of China, Nanjing Library and Xinjiang Library have launched anti-COVID-19 knowledge competitions; Hebei Provincial Library has also launched related activities.
4. "Reading Therapy" Service
Many libraries provide "Reading Therapy" service by recommending books, films or open classes. For example, National Library of China, Lanzhou University Library and Fujian Provincial Library recommended bibliography and comics, etc. to help us overcome anxiety.
5. Publicity of Anti-COVID-19 Related Knowledge
Libraries publishes the knowledge of anti-COVID-19 by recommending relevant books, open classes and the correct use of masks. Other useful propaganda means include broadcasting anti-COVID-19 cartoons, releasing and reprinting anti-COVID-19 news etc. Sichuan Province Library and the Library of Tibet helped to publicize COVID-19 prevention and control measures in ethnic minority areas.
6. Identification of COVID-19 Rumor
Shanghai library published the article "How to Obtain True and Reliable Information During the Anti-COVID-19 Period"; Yunnan Library launched the" COVID-19 Rumor Crusher" module on Wechat; Wuhan University Library recommended MOOCS and special information literacy modules to improve the information literacy to readers, so as to help users improve their ability to identify true and false information.
