Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Public Libraries’ Cooperation and Development for a Win-win Situation

In 2019, the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is in full swing. Cooperation between public libraries in this area has also entered a rapid development during this period. At present, the network of public library facilities in the Greater Bay Area is relatively sound, which basically achieves the goal of County-level Library coverage.

The cooperation tradition of libraries in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau has a long history. There is a common historical gene in the libraries between the three places, which is the basis for cooperation and dialogue in the public library system in the Greater Bay Area. After entering the 21st century, the governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao gradually intervened in library cooperation and incorporated the exchange and cooperation of public libraries in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao into the cooperative joint conference system established by the three governments. Three cooperation modes have been formed: cultural cooperation at the government level, regional library alliances and library academic conferences and forums.

At present, the libraries in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have made remarkable achievements in cooperation in resource sharing, personnel training, joint services and academic exchanges. Because of the basis for mutual reference and joint development, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have accumulated a number of fruitful cooperation results and gradually reached a consensus on cooperation.
