Civil Reading Activities on “4.23 World Book Day”

April 23, 2020 is the 25th World Book and Copyright Day. National Library of China (NLC) in conjunction with many other libraries in China, held the "Reading in the Library on the World Book Day" civil reading promotion activities to fight against COVID-19.

 

1. National Library of China launched a series of activities of "4.23 World Book Day" in 2020.

 

In order to protect the memory of special anti-COVID-19 period, to pass on the positive energy of anti-COVID-19, and to fully fulfill NLC’s mission of “Inheriting Civilization and Serving Society”, NLC was officially launched the China's Anti-COVID-19 Memory Bank Construction Project, and widely collected representative theme resources with the value of collection, research, display and commemoration formed during the anti-COVID-19 period.

 

2. Shanghai Library’s Online Book Club:” Night of Shanghai Library – Reading Lights the City”, a Special Webcast on the World Book Day

 

In this special "World Book Day", Shanghai Library innovated for the first time in the process of the orderly opening of the epidemic prevention and control and adopted the most popular presentation method: opening the 3rd "Night of Shanghai Library" on webcast, meeting with readers online.

 

3. Hubei Provincial Library held the "Reading against the Virus, Communicating with Couplets" World Reading Day theme activity.

 

In the "World Book Day", at the critical moment of combating the new coronavirus pneumonia, and under the favorable situation that many industries are orderly returning to work, Hubei Provincial Library held a series of reading activities.

 

4. Jinling Library jointly started the reading festival with other libraries in Nanjing.

 

In the "World Book Day", Jinling Library jointly carried out a series of activities with other libraries in Nanjing. The theme of "Mancheng Shuxiang" featured four majors: classic reading, appreciation of famous poetry, home letter culture, and intangible cultural heritage culture.

 

5. 15 libraries in Kunming promoted online reading activities in the “World Book Day”.

 

The Kunming Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau launched the Kunming Cultural Festival 2020 "Books help fighting against the virus and reading help reaching the future": "4 · 23 World Book Day" civil reading activities. The Kunming City Library and the other 14 counties of the city launched online reading activities, including the deployment of thousands of e-books and periodicals, a series of reading, writing, quiz, competitions and other activities, and inviting the general public to read online.

 

6. The first digital reading train was launched on Guangzhou Metro Line 3.

 

"Reading online on Metro" digital reading train of Guangzhou Metro Line 3 runs through Panyu Square to Tianhe Bus Terminal or Airport (North) from April 23 to May 25. During this month, citizens who ride the Metro Line 3 will have the opportunity to "encounter" with various classics, and accompany classic reading in the special train. In addition to reading online books by scanning a special code, passengers can also access the many online resources and related information of Guangzhou Public Library (Guangzhou Digital Library) in the reading train.

 

7. 8 public libraries in Anhui launched a joint live webcast of the "World Book Day".

 

Eight public libraries in six cities in Anhui Province adopted the form of "online joint live webcast" and jointly launched the webcast of World Book Day reading events. To ensure that cultural services are not closed during the epidemic, readers can enjoy the feast of books without leaving home.
