Organized by the Library Society of China, the 2019 Chinese Library Annual Conference was held on August 20-23 in Dongsheng District, Erdos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region with the theme “the transformation of library in a new era: balance, convergence, intelligence.”

The theme was based on the current unbalanced, inadequate situation of the library industry in China, and also stated the focus of the development of library in the future. The conference featured 9 forums, including a forum that celebrated the 40^th anniversary of the Library Society of China, and another one that focused on information literacy and sustainable development. The conference also invited more than 80 prestigious scholars, experts and librarians from home and abroad to deliver keynote speeches and exchange ideas.

During the closing ceremony on August 22, Shanghai Library Director Chen Chao delivered a speech on the construction of Shanghai Library East to the members of the society.
