A bus inspired by the Bauhaus, the world’s first school specializing in modern design, has taken to the streets globally to mark the German school’s centenary year in 2019.
Designed by German architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel, the bus started its six-month-long China tour from May. It features the gridded glass walls that wrap around the building, as well as the famous lettering down one side. Inside is a space, containing an area to host lectures and a reading room filled with books about the Bauhaus.
In August 2019, the Bauhaus bus reached Shanghai Pudong Library, and would stay there for 13 days. During the period, local citizens can not only read the books and audio/video materials about the Bauhaus on the bus, but also participate in a series of public events related to the school.
During its stay in Shanghai, the bus will also go to Tongji University, and take part in the Shanghai Design Week. After leaving Shanghai, it will take to the streets in Changsha, Hangzhou, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
