Guangzhou Library, together with 12 public libraries and literature institutions including Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province and Shenzhen Library, jointly launched Public Llibrary Alliance of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and issued the proposal of Public Library Alliance of GBA on November 5, 2019.

There are 12 public libraries in central cities and more than 1500 public libraries or branch libraries of various scales in GBA. Among them, Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province has the most abundant Lingnan literature in GBA. Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan and other cities have led the trend of "Library City" construction. Hong Kong and Macao have the most efficient public library systems in the world.

The establishment of Public Library Alliance of GBA aims to promote exchanges and cooperation in the fields of historical documents, national reading and library development etc., promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and support the research of Lingnan history and culture. The alliance is an open and cooperative framework. It adheres to the principles of voluntariness, equality, win-win and openness, promotes the coordinated development of the library industry in GBA, and continues to open to other interested public libraries and related institutions in GBA.
