First Yangtze Delta readathon held
The first Yangtze Delta readathon kicked off simultaneously at 21 venues in Shanghai and the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui on September 15, 2018. Originated in Shanghai, the readathon was expanded to the three provinces this year. Shanghai Library collaborated with the public libraries in the Yangtze Delta region to organize 1,700 readers to read one book, to jointly promote reading in the delta region.
Shanghai Library has been the partner with public libraries in the delta for many years. The 2018 Yangtze Delta Readathon is the first joint reading promotion project co-organized by the four regions.

The book used in the readathon, My Colleague is an AI, depicts the convergence of artificial intelligence and human work, and predicts the trend in the future. It tells the readers that human and AI have their own advantages and that everyone should be prepared to embrace a world where human and AI co-exist.
The readathon also coincided the opening of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. Reading the book is also a familiarization with AI for citizens.

It proved that readathon has gain huge popularity among readers not only in Shanghai, but also other places in the Yangtze Delta. The 1,700 readers were selected randomly from nearly 5,000 applicants.
