Audio library explores public library’s service functions
The audio library has become the latest innovation in the traditional service functions of a public library, which has made a great contribution in exploring digital reading, protecting audio resources and providing accessibility services.
The Nanshan Library in Shenzhen launched an audio library in 2018. It invites people to record books in a professional recording studio like a program of a radio station. By listening to the recordings, readers can not only obtain knowledge, but also experience the beauty of a language.
The Chongqing Library also opened the city’s first audio library in 2018. With an elegant and free-style design, the library enables readers to listen to high-quality audio resources by simply scanning a QR code.
Jiangsu launched its audio library project in 2017. It invited prestigious figures of Jiangsu to recite classics in local accent. It also allowed netizens to upload their own audio works. On the first day of the launch of the audio library, its Weibo post had more than 200,000 views and its website attracted more than 90,000 visitors.
In July 2018, the first audio library opened in Lhasa, Tibet. In cooperation with Lhasa’s special education school, the library features audio resources donated by 1,000 volunteers coming from nearly 80 universities and enterprises from around the world, including the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, the York University of Canada and Nanjing University. So far the volunteers have donated nearly 10,000 audio files covering almost 300 world classics and children’s books. It has also provided every student of the special education school with a loudspeaker so they can listen to the audio books more conveniently.
