2018 Chinese Library Annual Conference focuses on “Library and Society
Guided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, organized by the Library Society of China and Langfang Municipal People’s Government and supported by the National Library of China and the Hebei Provincial Department of Culture, the 2018 Chinese Library Annual Conference was held from May 31 to June 1 at the Langfang International Conference and Exhibition Center. With the theme of “Library and Society: Sharing an Efficient Rule of Law,” the event included academic conferences, expos, the first Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Book Exhibition and a reading festival.
During the conference, there were four themed forums on implementing the law on public libraries, enhancing the quality of library collections, evaluating and grading public libraries, and children’s reading. It also had six academic sessions on the education of librarianship and information literacy, the management and development of modern libraries, the application and innovation of library technology, the innovation and practice of library service, the library and the promotion of reading, and the library work and social development. About 200 experts and scholars made keynote speeches, exchanged their ideas and shared their experience on 24 key topics.
More than 3,000 people attended the conference, including many distinguished guests such as the chair and secretary general of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. A booth was set up by the American Library Association during the exhibition. The Chinese American Librarians Association organized seminars on the topic of innovative service of libraries and the teaching of new technology.
