On April 20, 2018, a six-member delegation led by Ms. Isimbaeva Gulmira Istaibekovn, vice president of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, visited Shanghai Library. The delegation also included Mr. Kyraubayev Zhoshykhan, Kazakhstan's Consul General in Shanghai, and officials from Shanghai foreign affairs office.
Chen Chao, director of Shanghai Library, met the delegation at the library’s VIP room, and gave a brief introduction of the library. Later, a book donation ceremony was held at the Friendship Library on the fourth floor. Ms. Gulmira, on behalf of the Mazhilis of the Parliament, donated more than 50 books to Shanghai Library, including the works by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Chen said these books will be open to the readers, and that he hoped the library can have more books from Kazakhstan so that Chinese people would have a better knowledge of the country’s culture, economy and social development.
Following the ceremony, Chen accompanied Ms. Gulmira to visit the new technology experience room, introducing the e-book lending service. A group photo was later taken at the entrance of the library.
