List of bestsellers a mirror to the society
| The lists of bestsellers in 2017, unveiled by three e-book retailers Dangdang, JD and Amazon, have shown some similarities between each other. Three books – Miracles of the Namiya General Store, Journey Under the Midnight Sun, and The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry – are included in all the three lists. And four books – The Kite Runner, Genius or Psychotic, Ferryman, and Feeling Free and Walking Alone – are seen in two of the lists. These seven books are omnipresent in the bestsellers lists. Miracles of the Namiya General Store, written by “king of bestsellers” Higashino Keigo, has been in the top 3 of Amazon’s bestseller list for the past three consecutive years. Six Records of A Life Adrift, a book that depicts the romance between Chinese writer Shen Fu and his wife Chen Yun, claimed the top 1 in the bestseller list of JD. Another phenomenal writer is Yuval Noah Harari from Israel. His work has been listed in Amazon’s editor’s picks for 7 times in 2017. While people are familiar with his book A Brief History of Humankind, his new book this year – A Brief History of Tomorrow – has claimed the top place in Douban’s list of most anticipated books in 2017. |
