On July 24, jointly organized by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Foreign Affairs Office, the Consulate General of the Peruvian Republic in Shanghai and the Shanghai Library, "The Memory of Peru: 1890-1950" Photo Exhibition opened in the catalog hall of the Shanghai Library. Jin Lei, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Foreign Affairs Office and Zosimo Morillo, Peruvian Consul General in Shanghai attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Chen Chao, Director of the Shanghai Library, Li Jie, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai International Trade Promotion Committee, and representatives of the consulate generals of various countries in Shanghai attended the opening ceremony.
On the occasion of the 169th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Peru, the purpose of holding the "Memory of Peru: 1890-1950" photo exhibition is to further promote the friendly exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and Peru, enhance Shanghai people’s understanding of Peruvian history and culture, and deepen the friendship between the people in Shanghai and Peru. The exhibition shows a total of 60 Peruvian photographers’ photograhic works in black and white, demonstrating the multi-color social groups and local life in Peru in the late 19th century and early 20th century, including landscapes, national traditions, daily life, labor and other scenes. Some of the works show the daily life of Chinese Peruvians. The photo exhibition is an important cultural project in the 2016 China-Latin America Cultural Year and the celebration of the 45th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between China and Peru. Previously, the exhition was held in Beijing and Guangzhou respectively in Beijing and Guangzhou in the second half of 2016 and the first half of 2017, accompined with a number of other activities.
