From April 22, 2017 to July 1, 2017, a big urban reading relay event entitled “Reading Chinese Culture by Traveling” will begin in Beijing, Tianjin, Nanjing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou etc.
The event aims to connect, through “reading and culture”, the cities along the railways between Beijing and Hong Kong. 20 cities are chosen as the sites to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong from Britain to China in a period of 71 days, they are Beijing, Tianjin, Xingtai, Dongying, Ji’nan, Nanjing, Suzhou, Zhengzhou, Xinyang, Bozhou, Wuhan, Huainan, Changsha, Hefei, Jiujiang, Nanchang, Shaoguan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan and Hong Kong.
These 20 cities are located along 3 main railway arteries: Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, Beijing-Kowloon Railway and Beijing-Kowloon High-speed Railway. They have good economic foundations and cultural heritages, and therefore can effectively radiate to neighboring regions and play an important role in promoting national reading.
When the time comes, in each of the abovementioned cities, activities such as launching ceremony, reading city, same-city book floating, reading marathon, and reading passport issuing will be carried out. Through culture, the urban reading relay event entitled “Reading Chinese Culture by Traveling” will help enhance understanding between different areas of China and promote economic exchange and development of these areas.
