The 8th Shanghai International Library Forum Opened at Shanghai Library
With “Libraries: Enabling Progress” as the theme, the 8th Shanghai International Library Forum (SILF 2016) was opened at Shanghai Library during July 6-8, 2016. More than 300 representatives from 27 countries and regions attended the Forum, among whom, there are library experts and representatives from home and abroad, and the global partners of Shanghai Library's exchange program: the “Window of Shanghai”.
At the opening ceremony, President of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) Ms. Donna Scheeder, Director of the National Library of China Mr. Han Yongjin, and Chairman of the Shanghai Library Council Mr. Yu Qiuyu delivered plenary speeches entitled "Library: Call for Actions", "Reform and Innovation - Thoughts on the Future Development of China's Library Industry", and "Library and Cultural Heritage" respectively; Deputy Director of the Shanghai Library Liu Wei, , Director of Library and Citizen Service of the Roskilde Libraries from Denmark Mogens VESTERGAARD, Director of Library Services of the University College Cork from Ireland Colette MCKENNA, Trenholme Dean of Libraries and Professor of the School of Information Science at McGill University from Canada C. Colleen COOK, and Director of the Public Library of Jalisco State from Mexico Juan Manuel DURÁN JUÁREZ delivered speeches as well. The Organizing Committee of the Forum received more than 100 theses from 19 countries and regions, and chose 70 theses for a collection, among which, 45 theses were discussed at the plenary lectures and seminars of the Forum. The Forum takes “Library: A Booster of Social Development” as the theme, setting 6 subtopics, namely, “Intelligent Library Construction”, “Integrated Library: Gathering and Cross-bordering”, “Public Digital Cultural Service”, “‘Internet +’ Services of Libraries in the Age of Big Data”, “Inclusive Design of Space and Service”, and “Library Resource Construction and Knowledge Organization”. The Forum pays attention to library transformation and innovation, stressing that library should advance with the times and develop scientifically. It not only supplies to library experts, scholars and peers of home and abroad a platform of exhibition, exchange and cooperation, but also, with its wide and in-depth discussions, gives theoretical instructions on the future development of library. |
