Opening, Co-construction and Sharing - Part of the Digital Resources of Shanghai Library Opened Online Free
During the information transformation, Shanghai Library will become a knowledge center, learning center and exchange center. Shanghai Library is devoted to developing information resources, promoting communications and sharing of these resources, and integrating scattered data, so as to serve the reader and the user more conveniently and efficiently. On April 23 (the “World Reading Day”), Shanghai Library will open part of its digital resources online free, to promote nationwide reading in an innovative way.
For years, Shanghai Library has been strengthening digital construction of its literatures and opening of its digital resources, with digitalization of the genealogies, books published in the Republic of China before 1949, rare ancient books, and old records collected forming a certain scale. From April 23 onwards, Shanghai Library will open part of its digital resources online free through its digital resources opening platform (http://wrd2016.library.sh.cn), so as to facilitate the reader’s remote visit and reading. Now, Shanghai Library’s digital resources opening platform has opened 2500 genealogies, 4 special picture galleries on “Shanghai Memory”, 50 rare ancient books and block-printed books, 100 books published in the Republic of China before 1949, 10 old records, over 30 online video lectures, and more than 20 online exhibitions. Based on technical tests and the solicitation of the reader’s opinions, Shanghai Library will gradually open more digital resources to continue satisfying the reader’s increasing demands for reading. By opening data to the public, and co-constructing and sharing resources with the public, Shanghai Library will go on improving service levels, establish closer relations with all walks of life, and accelerate constructing modern public cultural service systems, so as to push social, economic and cultural developments. |
