Tang Xianzu’s “Four Dreams” on the Kun opera stage

Lectured by: Yue Meiti, renowned Kun opera actress Anchored by: Zhang Yuan The lecturer will introduce Tang Xianzu’s most famous masterpieces, collectively known as the “Four Dreams”, i.e. The Peony Pavilion (牡丹亭), The Purple Hairpin (紫钗记), Record of Handa (邯郸记) and Record of Southern Bough (南柯记), all are still performed on the Kun opera stage in the form of excerpts. Focus will be laid on The Peony Pavilion, which is so far most popular in all the “Four Dreams”, in terms of the differences of all adapted versions and in particular, the performing characteristics of the excerpt of "The Interruption of a Dream" (惊梦). |
