“When William Shakespeare Meets Tang Xianzu” – a cultural dialogue 400 years late between the greatest playwrights of the West and East
Series in commemoration of Shakespeare and Tang Xianzu
Organized by: Shanghai Library Culture & Events Center, the Tianping Community William Shakespeare and Tang Xianzu, the two monumental figures in the world drama history, are constantly bracketed together by worldwide drama-goers. Amazingly coincident, the two were contemporaries living from approximately the late 16th century to early 17th century, yet geographically separate in the west and east hemisphere. More amazingly, the year 1616 saw the death of the both. After 400 years, activities are organized, invariably in the UK and China, to commemorate these two greatest playwrights the world has ever seen. |
