Library Events Going Live to Fit into the “Library +” Strategy
The growing popularity of e-book has navigated much possibility for future of reading. Meanwhile, library events are being available to the public via live videos, opening up an important way for patrons to access information and knowledge. This has effectively increased the penetration of digital readership, by furthering the public awareness of what on earth the “Library Plus” strategy can accomplish. For the time being the most famous and influential live program of library events is the NLC Open Course, initiated by the National Library of China in 2015. |
And there are a growing number of followers. During the period of October through November 2016, the Sichuan Provincial Library live broadcasted three public lectures online, in a trial effort to partner with the web portal Netease, registering a total of more than 350,000 online audiences – this can be compared to the previous 400 maximal capacity for visitors for a single onsite event. Live broadcasting its events is a move toward the “Internet Plus” objective while highlighting its “Library Plus” functional characteristics. Library is no longer just a place for people to borrow and read books; in the future there will be more activities and events coming in a greater diversity of forms such as forums, lectures, music appreciation gatherings, language-learning corners, book clubs and vis-à-vis communications between author and readers. |
