Shanghai Library Delegates Attend the IFLA Congress and Open A New “Window” in Botswana
On August 15, Shanghai Library Director Dr. Wu Jianzhong, Chief of Library and Information Sciences Research Division Mr. Ma Chun and Mr. Zhou Qing from International Cooperation Division headed for Cape Town of South Africa to attend the “IFLA World Library and Information Congress - 81st IFLA General Conference and Assembly” which was themed on “Dynamic Libraries: Access, Development and Transformation”. In this congress, there were altogether over 3000 registered participants, among whom 60 were from China. |
During the Congress, the Shanghai Library delegates participated in the Chinese Caucus hosted by the National Library of China, the IFLA Highlights Session, the Library Buildings and Equipment Session, and on August 18, attended the Repositioning libraries in the Asia Pacific region Asia and Oceania SI.
On August 21, the delegation arrived in the Kasane Public Library of Botswana. Mr. KAMWI MAZUNGA, Director of Kasane Public Library, Mr. O Tshukudu, Project Planning Commissioner, and Mr. Mou Hongru, Secretary-General of Botswana-China Friendship Association received the delegation, and the two sides had a pleasant communication. On the "Window of Shanghai” book donation ceremony, Director Mazunga introduced the development of the Public Library, especially the status quo and development of the local young readers. Director Mazunga expressed his great gratitude for the books gifted by the Shanghai Library. Dr. Wu said he was very pleased that the "Window of Shanghai" was set up in the beautiful Kasane, and committed that in the future the Shanghai Library would send more good books, especially children’s books to Kasane people. He also hoped that through the “Window of Shanghai”, more African readers can have a better understanding of Shanghai and China. After the ceremony, Dr. Wu gave his inscription on one of the gift books, and posed for pictures with Director Mazunga and the other guests. |
