Mobile Reader Card App Is the New Shanghai Library Initiative
Recently, the Shanghai Library launched a new service Initiative. It combines QR code technology with the readers’ identification information to develop a "mobile reader card", which has the same function as the real reader card. This initiative is an innovation in the Chinese libraries.
Libraries have existed for a long time, and the traditional basic service provided by the library is mainly book circulation. But the traditional way to borrow and return books is now showing such problems as the lack of convenience, efficiency and others. The Shanghai Library is now fully integrating the functions of the "Mobile Reader Card" into various library services, and at the same time, relying on the platform via the Internet, the library has achieved the integration of online and offline services and is providing more convenient services to the readers. The Shanghai Library has completed the test applications of the "mobile reader card" in the library reading room access, self-service equipment, reference book loan desk and others, and will soon officially launch the trial operation. This service will be implemented gradually in district and county branches of the Shanghai Central Library. In the future, the reader can obtain a unique "mobile reader card" simply by following the official account of the Shanghai Library on WeChat or install the Shanghai Library APP. In the future, readers can enter the reading room simply by swiping their "mobile reader card" on the access control device. Similarly, they can scan their mobile phone on the self-service equipment to borrow or renew books. In addition, QR code scanning equipment is installed at the librarian’s workstation with reference book loan services, and in the near future, readers can directly use the "mobile reader card" to request and borrow books. The application of "mobile reader card" offers convenience to the readers in the library in a variety of ways, as well as removing such defects of the traditional "real library card" as "card forgotten in the equipment", "fraudulent use of library cards" and etc., providing the reader with a more secure identity privacy protection. In addition to the offline promotion of the “mobile reader card", the Shanghai Library is also working with WeChat and Alipay, launching the library service in support of the "mobile reader card" authentication in the "City Service" section of the two top Internet applications, integrating the library service into a broader online area. |
