As an excellent traditional handicraft of China, purple clay teapot became an important part of ceramic art at the end of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), with a history of nearly 500 years. From Gong Chun and Shi Dabin in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to Chen Mingyuan and Chen Mansheng in the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912), till Gu Jingzhou in contemporary times, many masters with their wonderful skills have made their contributions to the development of ceramic (purple clay) art.
This time, Chinese master of arts and crafts and Chinese master of ceramic art Mr. Xu Xiutang will be invited to give us a lecture. From the lecture, we will know about his 60 years of striving to be a master of ceramic art, the beauty of purple clay teapot in form and spirit, a folk artist’s life of never giving up, and his courage to make creations based on the traditions inherited.

Mr. Xu Xiutang is Chinese master of arts and crafts, Chinese master of ceramic art, researcher-level master of arts and crafts, member of China Artists Association, member of Jiangsu Provincial Research Institute of Culture and History, guest researcher of Arts and Crafts Research Office under China Art Research Institute, honorary director of Ceramic Art Committee under Jiangsu Provincial Ceramic Society, and consultant of Jiangsu Provincial Folk Literature and Art Association.
