On July 14, the reporter got news from Chengdu Library that, the “Reading and Creation Space” of Chengdu Library had taken shape, and after further construction, the maker’s teams in Chengdu could apply with Chengdu Library for residing in the “Reading and Creation Space” free of charge.
It is reported that the idea of creating a maker’s space at a public library originates from USA. In May 2013, Shanghai Library transformed the 800m2 Patent Standard Search Tool Reading Room into an open space for creative design and exhibition. In June, Chengdu Library transformed the 170m2 Expert’s Reading Room into the “Reading and Creation Space”.
Secretary of CPC Committee of Chengdu Library Wang Li introduced that, the “Reading and Creation Space” would be equipped with computers, multi-media projections, sound boxes, a wireless network and conference tables, and makers could use the digital resources and book resources of Chengdu Library free of charge. In addition, to meet makers’ demands for online and offline communications and interactions, Chengdu Library would provide them with an online forum, and hold a meeting once a month for makers to share their resources. It is worth mentioning that Chengdu Library will also make full use of its advantages in “inter-library borrowing” to gather expert resources throughout Sichuan Province and China according to makers’ demands and answer makers’ various questions they would raise during the process of their starting business.
