Senior Project Officer of Asia-Pacific Economic and Social Council Visits Shanghai Library

On the afternoon of June 24, 2015, Wei Mengxin, head of the International Dept. under China Disabled Persons’ Federation and Guo Yongjun, vice chairman of Shanghai Disabled Persons’ Federation accompanied a delegation headed by Ms. Akiyama Aiko, senior project officer of Asia-Pacific Economic and Social Council visited the Shanghai Library. Director of Shanghai Library Dr. Wu Jianzhong, head of Reader Services Center Mr. Xu Qiang, and Ms. Liu Yan received the delegation.

Shanghai Disabled Persons’ Federation will undertake 2015 International Seminar on Barrier-free Information Construction in December 2015. During the seminar, the Shanghai Library will be one of the places to be visited. The purposes of Ms. Akiyama Aiko’s visit are to know about the Shanghai Library and to carry out a field survey. Dr. Wu Jianzhong gave Ms. Akiyama Aiko an introduction to the Shanghai Library in more than 20 languages, introduced the visions of the Library, namely, inclusiveness, openness and creativeness, welcomed the participants to 2015 International Seminar on Barrier-free Information Construction to visit the Shanghai Library, and promised that the Library would render international services to the visitors. Ms. Akiyama Aiko thanked the Shanghai Library for its warm reception and expected to have an unforgettable experience at the Shanghai Library in December.

After the negotiation, Dr. Wu Jianzhong accompanied the delegation to visit the Blind’s Reading Room, Chinese Books Lending Room, Catalogue Hall, New Reading Demo Center and Innovation Space. And then, Liu Yan introduced to the visitors the Shanghai Library’s services for the disabled, and Xu Qiang introduced the barrier-free construction of the home page of the Shanghai Library and the Library’s barrier-free construction of a digital library. Upon knowing about the Shanghai Library, Ms. Akiyama Aiko proposed that the “Information Obtainment” part of 2015 International Seminar on Barrier-free Information Construction be held at the Shanghai Library. Dr. Wu Jianzhong expressed that the Shanghai Library would try its utmost to support the coming seminar.
