The new Sichuan Provincial Library is composed of the eastern and the western parts. As a whole, it looks like two book houses in the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). The top of the building resembles two doctorial hats. The library has a total floorage of about 52,000m2, 8 above-ground floors, professional rooms and mating rooms such as stack room, reading room, lecture hall, multimedia hall and meeting room, and the equipment and software necessary for a digital library. The new library will gradually increase the quantity of the stored books to up to 10 million. Located at the junction between Dongchenggen Street and People Road (W), Qingyang District, Chengdu City, the new library stands shoulder by shoulder with Sichuan Provincial Art Gallery. Together with Sichuan Provincial Science Museum, Chengdu Library, Jincheng Art Hall and Tianfu Grand Theatre, a “Cultural Center” is formed in Tianfu Square.
