Introduction

This lecture is the first of the "Family Culture" lecture series. The "Family Culture" lecture series aims at presenting a spiritual and cultural feast of family culture, family traditions and family motto, through wonderful lectures given by the descendants of large Chinese families with far-reaching histories. This lecture is given by Qian Handong, a descendant of the Qian family in the South of China and Chairman of the Shanghai Qian Liu Research Association. Mr. Qian Handong will make an in-depth interpretation of the enduring and timeless family cultural tradition. The Qian’s is one of the famous families in the south of China, with scholarly heritage and rigorous family tradition. As the Qian family has historically focused on education, it has produced numerous talented people. The three distinguished Qians in modern China, Qian Sanqiang, Qian Weichang and Qian Xueseng were all from the Qian family. There were also such famous figures in the fields of literature, history and philosophy as Qian Xiantong, Qian Jibo, Qian Mu, Qian Zhongshu and the list goes on. According to research, they were the descendants of Qian Liu, King of the Wuyue Kingdom.

Qian Handong, Chairman of the Shanghai Qian Liu Research Association, a scholar in Qian family cultural studies, honorary Director and editor of the Xin Du Xie Magazine, Shanghai Newspaper Group, senior correspondent of Wen Hui Daily, a member of the Chinese Writers Association, a board member of the Chinese Society of Prose, a member of Chinese Ancient Ceramics Association, a senior adjudicator of the Shanghai Press and Publication System, and a part-time professor of the College of Humanities, Shanghai Normal University.
