Chinese Society of Ancient Books Protection Established
On January 23, Chinese Society of Ancient Books Protection was established in Beijing. It is a national-level nonprofit organization established by the enterprises, institutions, social groups and relevant organs, and individuals in relation to the collection, protection, restoration, sorting out, publication, and research on ancient books. As a folk organization, the Society aims to strengthen the self-discipline, maintain the rights and interests, and push the growth of the trade. Now, there are 124 members, including individuals and representatives from provincial-level ancient books protection centers, colleges and universities, scientific research institutions, and enterprises.
In the future, Chinese Society of Ancient Books Protection will build a bridge between the government and the trade, reflect to the administrative departments in charge of cultures the current situations, problems, and the interests expected of the ancient books protection industry, give valuable comments and suggestions, actively undertake the functions of the government, assist government departments to formulate and implement development plans and policies for the trade, and according to the Articles of Association of Chinese Society of Ancient Books Protection, organize, manage, and push the growth of the trade.
According to reliable sources, Chinese Society of Ancient Books Protection was sponsored by National Ancient Books Protection Center. “Many may ask this question: ‘We already have National Ancient Books Protection Center, is it necessary to establish Chinese Society of Ancient Books Protection?’” Zhang Zhiqing, deputy curator of National Library of China and deputy director of National Ancient Books Protection Center, thus explained to the writer: “Chinese Society of Ancient Books Protection is an effective supplement to National Ancient Books Protection Center. It will make full use of social forces and actively absorb non-governmental capitals to protect ancient books.”
