Shanghai Library Inaugurates Big Data and Digital Public Cultural Services Research Base
A RESEARCH report titled “The Big Data Applications in Public Cultural Service Sector” was released by Shanghai Library on December 4th at a namesake seminar held in conjunction with the official unveiling of the MCPRC-sponsored Public Cultural Service Research Base.
Shanghai Library is reportedly the one and only library nationwide engaged in the MCPRC (Ministry of Culture of People’s Republic of China) public culture research initiative. Big data has brought sophisticated impacts to the field of public cultural services, according to the research report. The innovative use and adoption of big data around the world as a result of achievements in flourishing digital public cultural infrastructures, has increased the demand on public governance while igniting a new round of global economic growth. And on the other hand, the shared use of data sets in public cultural domain and users’ personal information is forming a data-driven service chain in a more individualized, accurate and smarter fashion. The seminar witnessed presence of some 50 experts and information specialists from the MCPRC, Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio Film & TV, Expert Committee on National Public Cultural Service System Construction, Peking University, Communication University of China, Southwest University, Capital Normal University, the Cultural Innovation Center of Wuhan University, the National Art Museum of China, the Capital Library and Suzhou Public Cultural Center. Meanwhile, a variety of mobile applications and electronic products are on display in the catalog hall, featuring the “Shanghai Cultural Cloud” and “Shanghai Citizen Digital Reading” APPs, the “Micro-reading” channel supported by WeChat and Alipay.com, some smart wearables, robots and aerial drones. The show will run through December 12th |
