In the morning of June 27, the new book launching ceremony for Greater Shanghai Urban Planning jointly produced by the Shanghai Library, Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Institute and Tongji University Press was held at the Shanghai Library. Leaders of the three responsible organizations, including Wu Jianzhong, Zhang Yuxin and Zhi Wenjun, as well as leaders from the publishing industry, veteran leaders and experts of the Shanghai urban planning,  descendants of the Greater Shanghai Urban Planning Committee members and renowned scholars, writers and media reporters in Shanghai attended this ceremony. Mr. Huang Xiangong, Director of the Shanghai Library History Documentation Center presided over the ceremony.

Compiled in 1946-1949, Greater Shanghai Urban Planning is China's first city master plan prepared according to the modern urban planning theory. It has retained people’s ideal for the future development of Shanghai at that particular era, and is an important historical heritage of Shanghai. Greater Shanghai Urban Planning is reorganized by the Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Institute and edited and published by the Tongji University Press. The book is divided into 2 volumes, including the reorganized version and the photocopy version, taking into account both the authenticity of historical data and the practicality of modern urban studies.

At the ceremony, Mao Jialiang, Chairman of the Shanghai Urban Planning Industry Association and Shanghai Urban Planning Society, Wu Jianzhong, Director of the Shanghai Library and Kan Ninghui, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Press and Publication Bureau delivered speeches. Zhang Yuxin, Director of the Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Institute, Zhi Wenjun, Director of the Tongji University Press talked about the organization, editing and publishing of Greater Shanghai Urban Planning. Other honored guests, including Mr. Zheng Shiling, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of the Department of Architecture, Tongji University, Mr. Zhao Guotong (the son of Zhao Zukang, Director of the Shanghai Bureau of Engineering Affairs during the period when the Planning was in the preparation), a member of the Tenth CPPCC and a counselor to the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and other scholars and experts also made wonderful speeches from the historical perspectives of urban development.

Director Wu Jianzhong explained the importance of the "World City Day" in his speech, and he believes that “the publication of the Greater Shanghai Urban Planning has made an important contribution to the urban development". The new book launching ceremony held at the Shanghai Library has a special commemorative significance for us to review the historical development of the Shanghai city. Since the opening of its port 170 years ago, shanghai has accumulated a rich historical heritage, and organizing, discovering and publicizing the Shanghai historical documents are the important duties of the library.

Leaders from the responsible organizations, Wu Jianzhong, Zhang Yuxin and Zhi Wenjun together unveiled the launching ceremony of the Greater Shanghai Urban Planning. The Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Institute and Tongji University Press presented the book to the Shanghai Library and the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum.
