On April 29 to May 10, “2014 Shanghai University Museums Joint Exhibition” was held at the Shanghai Library. The exhibition was divided into 12 sections. The first section displayed the oracle bones, Gaoshan artifacts and photos showing Yu Youren’s calligraphy in the Fudan University Museum collection. The second section belonged to the Shanghai Jiaotong University Museum, which gave a concise presentation of the life of Dong Haoyun, one of the “seven ship tycoons in the world”, with vivid photos, materials and objects. In the third section, the Qian Xueseng Library demonstrated Qian Xueseng’s outstanding contribution to China's space industry. The fourth section was organized by the East China Normal University Numismatic Museum, Shanghai Finance University Contemporary Numismatic Museum and Shanghai • China Accounting Museum, displaying the development and changes of ancient and contemporary coins and the history of China's financial industry.
In the fifth section, the Donghua University’s Shanghai Textile Clothing Museum presented the development history of China's textile and apparels with pictures and physical objects. In the sixth section, the Oriental Musical Instruments Museum of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music illustrated with pictures and texts the characteristics of ancient Chinese musical instruments and those of all ethnic groups. In the seventh section, the Shanghai Theatre Academy Museum gave a comprehensive and three-dimensional description of the features of the Chinese theater performance as a national treasure, in such forms as theatrical literature, audio-visual materials and related physical objects. In the eighth section, the Shanghai Ocean University Museum traced the marine civilization as the origin of life with precious specimens of marine fish and etc. In the ninth section, the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum concentrated on the long history of TCM, reflecting the inheritance and innovation of the Chinese medicine. In the tenth section, the Shanghai Normal University Museum gave an exciting show of the elegant porcelain, demonstrating the long and splendid ancient Chinese porcelain and ceramic art. In the eleventh section, the Shanghai University Printing Museum exhibited the spread of print culture for over one thousand years and gave an interpretation of the printing technology and its deep cultural connotation. In the twelfth section, the Chinese Martial Arts Museum of the Shanghai Sports Institute presented the long history of the Chinese martial arts with adequate literature, images, data and multimedia presentation tools.
The exhibition is the first series activity jointly organized by the Shanghai University Museum Educational Alliance and the Shanghai Library to carry out the theme of "Combining Culture and Education and Linking Libraries and Museums". Over the next few months, there will be more large-scale events in various forms, including Museum Lectures and series theme exhibitions.
