Award Ceremony of "Shanghai Get-Together 2014" – The Third Recitation and Writing Contest Held in Gubei Civic Center
 
On December 19, 2014, the award ceremony of "Shanghai Get-Together 2014" – The Third Recitation and Writing Contest was held in the Gubei Civic Center. Mr. Zhang Yanbin, Director of the Third Bureau of State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Zhou Yajun, Deputy Director of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Mr. Chen Jingxi, Deputy Director of Information Office of Shanghai Municipality, Ms. Yuan Jing, Deputy Division Chief of the Third Bureau of State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Li Chunping, Chief of European and African Affairs Division of Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Ms. Wu Wenqin, Deputy Director of Shanghai Changning District Culture Bureau, Ms. You Yan, Deputy Secretary of Shanghai Hongqiao Community, Ms. Christine Liu, Public Affairs Advisor of New Zealand Consulate General Shanghai, Ms. Chie Maekawa, Cultural Consul of Japan Consulate General Shanghai attended the ceremony. In this ceremony, there were representatives of the contest judging panel – Ms. Mei Ping, Vice Chairman of Chinese Folk Artist Association, Mr. Guo Chuanzhong, Professor of Shanghai Institute of Visual Art, Ms. Zhang Yanli, Dean of School of Chinese Studies and Exchange of Shanghai International Studies University. Dr. Wu Jianzhong, Director of Shanghai Library, Mr. Tang Xiaofeng, Director of Shanghai Changning Library, and so forth were also present. Six winners of the first and second prizes came in person from overseas to accept the awards.

"Shanghai Get-Together 2014" – The Third Recitation and Writing Contest was jointly organized by the Third Bureau of State Council Information Office of the PRC, Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration, Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Shanghai Library, and supported by Shanghai Changning Library and Gubei Civic Center. Recitation of Chinese poems was added to this year’s contest besides writing contest, so as to meet the needs of more readers and friends. The contest received enthusiastic responses and participations from global readers and collected altogether 256 entries from 37 countries, with 162 articles and 94 recitations. After three rounds of judgments, 87 entries were awarded. Ms. Sybille Braun from Germany won the first prize of the writing contest and Mr. Ly Rottana from Cambodia and Mr. Tony Eyre from New Zealand got the second prize. In addition, 17 entries were selected for the third prize and 30 entries were awarded the fourth prize. In the recitation contest, Mr. Freddy Fabrizio from Ecuador hit the first prize and Mr. Langtian Yang from U.S. and Ms. Ayumi Nagura from Japan won the second prize. There were 7 recitation entries for the third prize and 27 for the fourth.

In the ceremony, Director Zhang Yanbin first addressed this great event. And then the 6 winners were awarded and each shared his/her speech in both Chinese and English. Two of the winners made recitation performances and Ms. Ayumi Nagura from Japan performed Peking Opera, which became a highlight of the whole activity. The ceremony ended with a thank-you speech from Director Wu Jianzhong. This event also attracted the attention from different media like ICS Channel, China Daily, ChinaNews.com, and QQ.com.
