China-Arab National Library Directors Forum Held in the National Library of China
| On October 13, organized by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the Arab League Secretariat, and hosted by the National Library of China and China Foreign Culture Group, "China-Arab National Library Director Forum" was held in the National Library of China. Ding Wei, Vice Minister of the Chinese Ministry of Culture, the Yemeni Deputy Minister of Culture, and Han Yongjin, Director of the National Library of China attended the forum and gave their separate speeches. More than a dozen of library directors and experts from Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Oman, Tunisia, Algeria, Lebanon, Sudan, Morocco, Yemen and other Arab League countries, as well as a number of Chinese library directors participated in the event. |

| On the forum, representatives of China and Arab Librarians held discussions on such topics of concern as the establishment of cooperation mechanism in the field of information, library resource sharing, cooperation and development, the protection and utilization of library collections, digital library development and cooperation, and approved the "China-Arab National Library Director Forum Bulletin (October 13, 2014 Beijing initiative). " To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the "China-Arab Cooperation Forum," implement the strategic plan of the central government about "Silk Road economic zone" and the "Marine Silk Road", further promote the cultural exchanges and cooperation between China, the Arab countries and the countries along the Silk Road, the third Arab Arts Festival was held in August 2014 to October in Beijing and other places. The forum is one of the activities of the Arab Arts Festival. The forum is organized to lay the foundation for the upcoming China-Arab Library Information Expert Meeting in 2015 and do the groundwork for the establishment of Sino-Arab cooperation in the field of library information system. The Forum has enhanced the development concept of regional library cooperation, built an exchange platform in the China-Arab library communities, filled the blank space in the cooperation between the Chinese library community and the Arab National Library, take an important step towards substantive cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit and mutual trust, and playing a significant role in promoting the common development of China-Arab librarianship. |
