The “2013 Impact Report of Chinese Books in Library Collections Worldwide” was released on August 30 in Beijing. The report shows that in recent years, Chinese books in the library collections worldwide have increased in varieties and are gradually strengthening impacts overseas.
The basic data of the "Impact Report of Chinese Books in Library Collections Worldwide" are the bibliographical records of the OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) libraries. During BIBF 2012, the China Publishing & Media Business Daily (formerly China Book Business) published for the first time “Impact Report of Chinese Books in Library Collections Worldwide “An Analysis Based on the Bibliographic Data of Chinese Book Collections”, showing that 8,179 titles of books were collected by over 30 libraries worldwide, which were produced by 361 Publishers.
According to 2012 OCLC 2012 annual report, the number of OCLC numbers reached 74,029 around the world, including 22,955 libraries from 112 countries and regions around the world, involving 470 languages.
Through an analysis of the Chinese books produced by 581 publishers in mainland China, the "2013 Impact Report of Chinese Books in Library Collections Worldwide" discovered that, as of August 23, 2013, there were 8,179 titles of Chinese books entering the collections of over 30 libraries worldwide, which were produced by 392 publishers. Compared with 2012, there is a net increase of 9,831 titles, and 31publishers.
Data show that a total of 34 publishers in China having more than titles in more than 30 libraries worldwide, with altogether 10,817 titles. Zhonghua Book Company ranks first, with 1,568 titles. The second is the Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House, with 892 titles. The third is the People's Literature Publishing House, with 708 titles. Those ranking fourth to tenth are: Shanghai People's Publishing House, Cultural Relics Publishing House, China Social Sciences Publishing House, People's Publishing House, Peking University Press, Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House, Writers Publishing House.
