“Window of Shanghai” Inaugurated in Finland

At the invitation of the Espoo municipal government of Finland, a delegation headed by Mr. YANG Xiong, Mayor of Shanghai, paid a formal visit to Espoo city from August 25 to 27, 2013. During the visit, Mayor YANG Xiong met with Mr. Sauli Väinämö Niinistö, President of Finland, Mr. Jan Pellervo Vapaavuori, Minister of Economic Affairs, Ms. Krista Kiuru, Minister of Education and Mr. Jukka Mäkelä, Mayor of Espoo. Mayor YANG Xiong witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement in education between Shanghai and Espoo, and attended the "Window of Shanghai" inauguration and book donation ceremony. Mr. HUANG Xing, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Finland, was present in the related activities. The Shanghai Library established partnership with the Espoo City Library in the “Window of Shanghai” project in August, and sent the first donation of 507 titles of books, altogether 545 volumes to the Tapiola Library, one of the bigger branches of Espoo City library.

 

The “Window of Shanghai” international cultural communication project, initiated by the Shanghai Library in 2002, aims to introduce the Chinese culture and to promote the Chinese civilization and the charms of Shanghai by providing the overseas readers with more latest Chinese publications. So far, the project has donated nearly 65 thousand books to 106 participating institutions in 61 countries and regions covering 6 continents all over the world.
