On August 1, 2013, the "Light from Light" exhibition of the Asia Pacific Media Arts Center came out of the 15 finalists in the visual arts category of the "Australian Art in Asia" competition, and ultimately won the "Australian Art in Asia" Award in the Visual Arts category, along with winners in 13 other categories of outstanding artistic projects.
The "Light from Light" international exhibition project is organized by the Australian non-profit organization -- Asia Pacific Media Arts Center. The project specifically selected libraries as exhibition venues, combining the idea of "light-knowledge" and "light-light", reflecting the relationship between "knowledge" and "light", so that the visual language and scripts complement each other in the library.
The Shanghai Library and the State Library of Queensland, Australia have long maintained good relations of cooperation, based on the "Window of Shanghai" as a cultural exchange platform. The first "Light from Light" exhibition was jointly launched by the Asia Pacific Media Arts Centre, the State Library of Queensland and the Shanghai Library, with a grand opening ceremony held at the Shanghai Library on November 3, 2010. Inspired by light or with light as energy, artists from China and Australia displayed their works of art according to local conditions. Their works were distributed in various library areas, reading spaces, and some places that were usually not noticed, bringing delight and surprise to readers and the general public.
With the "Window of Shanghai" as a platform, and based on the project of book donations, the Shanghai Library is expanding its marketing channels and gradually helping to spread the Chinese culture to the world with such interactive activities as exhibitions, lectures, readings, cultural experiences and so on, and at the same time, has attracted the world's outstanding cultural to come closer to the Chinese readers.
In the future, the Shanghai Library will attract more outstanding art exhibitions to be held in Shanghai, providing opportunities for the domestic audience to enjoy outstanding world cultures.
