Introduction Reading is what Mr. Yan Chongnian does everyday. He said: "The development of mankind from barbarism to civilization can be attributed to the invention of writing. The vast sea of books consisting of texts has become the mentor and friend of people for the accumulation of experience and the transformation of society. Books have played an indispensible role in the history of human civilization, and reading good books is a short cut for us to improve our minds"
Reading thousands of books and travelling thousands of miles. Reading is one of the great pleasures of life. The Shanghai Library lecture invites the well-known historian Mr. Yan Chongnian to talk about reading and the mind.
About the Speaker Yan Chongnian is a famous historian on Qing dynasty, a research fellow of the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, Vice President of the China Society of the Forbidden City and Chairman of the Beijing Association of Manchurian Study. His research fields are Manchuria history, the history of the Qing Dynasty, and the history of Beijing. He initiated and founded the first professional research institution on Manchurian study: Manchurian Study Institute of the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Society for Manchurian Study and Beijing Manchurian Study Foundation. He initiated and chaired the first to fifth International Symposium on Manchurian Study. How to Attend the Lecture
