The Shanghai Public Library Services Awareness Week Starts

The annual National Public Library Service Awareness Week kicked off on May 26. This year, the Shanghai Library organized a series of events with "Scholarly Shanghai - Reading Leads the Future" as the theme, including such events as the opening of the Creative Industry Reading Room, the releasing of the "2012 Shanghai Public Library Reading Report", lectures, exhibitions, manuscripts donations, and such colorful activities as new book recommendations and the readers’ writing contest.

During the Awareness Week, as an important window of cultural and creative industry information in Shanghai, the "Creation• New Space" Reading Room has its debut. "The Creation • New Space" takes “Activating Creativity, and Exchanging Knowledge" as its major concept, and will provide readers with intelligent and all media subject information services. It introduces the first 3D printer in the library community in China, making the library into a place of learning and exploration.

Through the "micro-carrier", the Shanghai Library launched a new audio-visual product - "Micro-lectures." From more than 800 Shanghai Library Lectures, a selection of highlights will allow readers to approach famous masters at the fastest speed and in the minimum time. The micro-production of the first batch of lectures, including "Wang Meng: the Enjoyment of Ideas", "Zhou Guoping: the Happiness of Philosophy", "Cao Kefan: Chinese Literary Feelings" and others will meet with readers during the Awareness Week.

Meanwhile, through the "micro-carrier", the Shanghai Library has also carried out "Public Digital Reading Promotion Advertisements (micro slogans) Soliciting Activity," "Witty Book Reviews - Shanghai Public Libraries Micro Book Review Soliciting Activity” and "One Sentence Book Review Soliciting Activity”. The Chinese Cultural Celebrities Manuscript Library of the Shanghai Library will organize many manuscripts donation ceremonies during the Awareness Week, and donors are from literary translation, historical research, medical research, drama studies, and other fields, with an unprecedented coverage of disciplines and categories.
